Canon & Brother Publishes Cartridge-Related Patent in the U.S.

According to Plato, the Law Firm, Canon and Brother has published 3 patents each that is related to cartridges or cartridge structures. Among them, one patent of Canon has already been granted.

From May 4 to May 31, a total of 646 patents related to laser printing had been published by the five largest patent offices worldwide. This included 10 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, 344 new applications, and 292 granted patents. Among these, 67 patents were specifically linked to cartridges. Most patents were published or granted in the U.S.A., indicating possible product releases or technological breakthrough in the near future.Canon emerged as a leading player, accounting for nearly a quarter of all new patent applications (PCT + published) with a total of 176 submissions. These comprised 90 applications in Japan, 44 in the USA, 28 in China, 13 in Europe, and 1 PCT application. Ricoh followed with 52 applications. Brother submitted a total of 22 applications, with 3 notable patents related to cartridges: one patent for chip positioning, one for electrode structure, and one for a structure allowing the developing chamber to move relative to the toner chamber. On the other hand, Canon published 2 patents for toner cartridge structures.
When examining granted patents, Canon once again led the field with a total of 111 patents, including one for a drive head structure in the USA. Following were Ricoh, Kyocera, and Brother, respectively securing 34, 21 and 20 patents.

Other major players in the printing industry, such as HP, Ninestar and Pantum, were also among the top list for patent applications. However, further details about these patents are yet to be disclosed until preliminary review is finalized.
