HP China Responds to Supply Chain Shift Claim

HP China has responded to recent reports about HP Inc.’s alleged decision to move the majority of its PC production out of China, categorically denying the claims. In a statement, HP China emphasized the continued significance of its PC production operations in China, asserting, “HP’s PC production business in China remains crucial in delivering high-quality products and services to global markets.”

The claims of HP’s shift originated from a report by Nikkei Asia, which claimed that HP was considering relocating more than half of its personal computer production from China to mitigate geopolitical risks. The report suggested that Thailand would become the primary site for these operations, with a backup design hub established in Singapore. The post has since been widely circulated and referenced in other news outlets.

Earlier this month, HP published a press blog introducing HP’s commitment to supply chain optimization. In this blog, HP highlighted its efforts toward approaching customers and resolving geopolitical challenges, including building production sites in more countries. While reaffirming China’s importance as a key partner in manufacturing, engineering, and innovation, HP expects a future of supply chains with a higher level of interconnection. Alongside with refining global footprint, efficiency and sustainability are also among the targets HP is pursuing for its supply chains around the world.

It is worth noting that Nikkei Asia’s report specifically focused on HP’s PC supply chain, without mentioning any plans for shifting production of other products, such as printers.
