Brother Begins Remanufacturing Ink Cartridges in UK

Brother Industries, Ltd. has announced that its UK manufacturing facility, Brother Industries (U.K.) Ltd. (BIUK), has started remanufacturing used ink cartridges for printers and All-in-One devices. This initiative builds on the company’s 20 years of experience remanufacturing toner cartridges and is part of Brother’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The Brother Group has long focused on reusing and recycling products and consumables, including toner cartridges, which it has been remanufacturing since 2004. Initially starting in the UK, Brother’s toner cartridge remanufacturing has expanded to facilities in Slovakia, the United States, and Japan. By the end of March 2024, Brother had remanufactured over 40 million toner cartridges worldwide.

Now, applying its expertise from toner remanufacturing, BIUK has begun remanufacturing ink cartridges collected from customers across Europe. These cartridges are restored to the same quality as new ones and then redistributed, further contributing to waste reduction and resource sustainability.

This initiative aligns with Brother’s environmental goals, which are outlined in its “Brother Group Environmental Vision 2050.” The company aims to maximize resource circulation by 2050 and reduce the use of virgin materials in its products to 81% or lower by 2024. The expansion of ink cartridge remanufacturing is a step toward achieving these goals.
