HP Maintains Lead in Indian Printer Market in 1Q2013
A recent CyberMedia Research report points out that Hewlett-Packard India continues to keep its No. 1 place in the Indian A4 printers market. It seized 49 percent of the total market which imported more than 380,000 units in the first quarter (January-march) of 2013.
Following HP, Canon ranks No.2 with a 16-percent market share and Epson No. 3 with 13 percent during the period.
The report says on the whole, India imported 781,000 units during the quarter, with an increase of 2 percent as compared to the corresponding quarter last year 768,000 units in Q1 2012.
And for the first time shipments of multi-function printers (MFPs) to India have exceeded shipments of single function printers.
The contribution of single function printers to the market slipped from 53 percent to 49 percent in the January-March quarter.
Sumanta Mukherjee, Lead Analyst, CMR InfoTech & Channels Practices, said, “The scale of print has become the key determinant for the choice of printer technology. Government and Enterprise segments have started adopting MFPs as these offer greater ease of use and help to consolidate multiple devices.”
He said demand of mid-level inkjet MFPs has started to increase, mainly due to the fact that the cost per page for inkjet printers continues to post a decline.
