“Before the event, many of these buyers had not met these suppliers, been to China, or even been aware of the existence of this expo before,” said Cecile Zheng, Vice General Manager of C-RT.

South Africa, one of the continent’s most developed economies, boasts a well-established market for printing solutions and office supplies. The country is often described as “The Gateway to Africa” and is ideally situated for enterprises looking to expand their reach and export across sub-Saharan Africa. On April 10, more than a hundred visitors participated in the RT VIP Imaging Expo held in Johannesburg to meet numerous exhibitors.

Unlike traditional open exhibitions, the expo applies an exclusive VIP mode where all exhibitors and attendees must be invited to show up at the event. Comexposium Recycling Times, the organizer of the event, had been researching the latest buyer and market database to ensure that all members selected are capable of either importing foreign products or offering up-to-date solutions in the industry.

The event cannot be organized successfully by the hand of the organizer online. DeLace Pty., Ltd, local supporter in South Africa, provided their more than 60 years of experience in the imaging industry across Middle East and Africa. Thanks to them, the organizer managed to locate visitors who represented a majority of leading local distributors across Johannesburg.

“The VIP exhibition model can assure both parties that they can establish valid and valuable business connections,” added Cecile. “Most buyers have been importing from places including Europe and the USA while never getting the chance to know other suppliers. This is the perfect platform they need to expand their industry networks and build new links.”

First trialed in 2019, the intense one-day VIP expo model took off with extensive praise and was reinstated again in 2023 after the pandemic. Before each event, exhibitors were provided the latest buyer list so they could arrange appointments in advance and engage better during the expo. On the event day, enthusiastic conversations were spotted everywhere across the venue, with exhibitors proudly introducing their offerings and big buyers browsing curiously. According to some exhibitors, they were acquainted with numerous new customers who were inclined to reach long-term cooperation.

An agreeable environment where people can chat cozily is on the organizer’s priority list. The event was held in a fancy local hotel, with a working lunch and teatime break provided. By the end of the expo, the organizer held a lucky draw to give out free tickets to the RTMworld VIP Expo in October in Zhuhai, where a greater number of international exhibitors await. For many of the local buyers, they may not even have heard of the city of Zhuhai.

As the expo wrapped up, everyone left the venue with great satisfaction. But the event is not over yet, as exhibitors will travel to two more destinations: Addis Ababa and Riyadh.
