Brother Industries Ltd reports a decline in revenue, business segment profit, and operating profit in its consolidated results for the fiscal year 2019 that ended March 31, 2020.
Some highlights of the fiscal year 2019 include:
- Revenue dropped 6.8% to JP¥637,259 million (USD$5.92 billion)
- Operating profit decreased 7% to JP¥66,942 million (USD$6.22 billion)
- Profit before income taxes declined 6.4% to JP¥67,329 million (USD$625.77 million)
- Profit before income taxes reduced 7.2% to JP¥67,046 million (USD$632.14 billion)
- Profit for the period decreased by 8.3% to JP¥49,699 million (USD$461.86 million)
By business segment, printing & solutions segment sales revenue reached JP¥3,907 million (USD$36.34 million), a decline of JP¥123 million (USD$1.14 million) in the fiscal year 2019 compared to last year. Business segment profit registered JP¥571 million (USD$5.31 million), an increase of JP¥49 million (USD$0.46 million), while operating profit reached JP¥571 million (USD$5.31 million), up JPY¥42 million (USD$0.4 million).
According to Brother sales of ink printers and consumables are firm globally despite sluggish sales and negative foreign exchange results.
Its operations in Zhuhai, Shenzhen and Xian, China have been back at work since February 12, 2020, but the plant in the Philippines remains closed but its sales staff are working from home where possible.
Brother also claims that it’s difficult to reasonably predict the impact on the consolidated forecast for the year ending March 31, 2021, at this stage due to COVID-19.
