Brother Reports Mixed Results for Q2 and H1
According to Brother, its revenue increased from JPY176.50 billion (US$1.20 billion) from the same period last year to JPY196.93 billion (US$1.35 billion) in the second quarter (Q2) of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023.
In Q2, Brother’s gross profit declined from JPY77.58 billion (US$530.90 million) to JPY 74.50 billion (US$509.82 million) compared to the same period last year. Operating profit decreased from JPY 24.72 billion (US$169.15 million) to JPY12.45 billion (US$85.19 million).
By segment, the Printing & Solutions segment revenue increased from JPY106.10 billion (US$726.03 million) to JPY118.67 billion (US$812.33 million) in Q2 compared to the same period last year, while operating profit declined from JPY16.38 billion (US$112.11 million) to JPY5.44 billion (US$37.23 million).
For the six months that ended September 30, 2022, Brother’s revenue increased 13.2% year-over-year to JPY396.67 billion (US$2.17 billion).
In this period, Brother’s business segment profit decreased 27.3% year-over-year to JPY35.92 billion (US$245.85 million), and operating profit decreased 26.8% year-over-year to JPY37.47 billion (US$256.43 million). Profit before income taxes declined 25.9% year-over-year to JPY38.21 billion (US$261.49 million).
By segment, Brother’s revenue dropped from JPY205.16 billion (US$1.40 billion) to JPY240.51 billion (US$1.65 billion), while operating profit declined from JPY32.72 billion (US$223.92 billion) to JPY22.38 billion (US$153.16 million).
