Canon India Will Provide Longer Warranties for Products Purchased in Shops
According to Economic Times India, to win the fight between the top electronic brands and online marketplaces, Canon India plans to offer longer warranty periods for products bought in shops.
Alok Bharadwaj, Executive Vice-president at Canon India, claimed, “We are considering separate warranties, for example a one year warranty for online and 15 months for offline. The problem is that the online retailers are providing heavy discounts that destroy the price point of offline traders.”
In early February, Canon issued a certification for authorized online retailers in the printer category. In addition to Canon’s own store, online sellers including eBay, Flipkart’s group company WS Retail, and Varay Image Runners, have obtained this certificate.
Experts opine “the race for growth among online retailers is intensifying the fight”. Canon’s Bharadwaj said he expects the price problem to “sort itself out in the next two to three years when the online market matures”. Bharadwaj said, “Then maybe we will like each other. Now it is like two strangers battling it out on their business models.”
