China Updates Visa-free Policy for More European Countries
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an update on the visa-free policies, adding six additional countries: Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg.
From March 14th to November 30th, 2024, ordinary passport holders from the aforementioned countries can be exempted from visa applications to enter China and remain for up to 15 days. The exemption applies to visitors with purposes including business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, and transit.
Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister, expressed during the Two Sessions that the establishment of fast-track networks for cross-border passengers is among the priorities for China in 2024. Meanwhile, China will continue the expansion of the visa-free social circles and cooperate with more countries by implementing various forms of visa policies.
The news has received positive responses from people of these countries. Szijjártó Péter, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, recognized the importance of tourism between Hungary and China, and appreciated the visa waiver China provided for Hungarian tourists and businessmen. Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, also deemed the exemption a “good news” for Belgian exports to China.
Previously China has announced a trail visa-free policy for France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia, which is currently in effect until November 30, 2024. The new update is an addition to the original policy, and is expected to extend invitations to a larger European region. Buyers and suppliers from these countries can now prepare more easily to attend the RemaxWorld Expo in Zhuhai in October this year.
