Context Reports Growth in Certain Western European Consumable Markets
According to Context, one of Europe’s leading market research firms, revenue from sales of certain OEM print consumables by Western European distributors continued to grow in the second quarter of 2014 (2Q2014).
Context reported OEM ink cartridges and tanks marked 8% year-on-year (YoY) growth in Western Europe for 2Q2014. That rise was mainly driven by an average selling price of 16 euros (£12.80, or $21.1 USD).
As reported, Canon registered 21% growth in revenue and enjoyed growth mostly in markets in the UK and Spain. For the ink cartridge and tank segments, Brother and Epson gained 13% and 14% share, respectively in the Western European market. With strong sales in the UK, Germany and Spain as well, HP achieved an 8% YoY increase in overall revenue for 2Q2014.
In addition, Context noted that the Spanish market grew 22% in revenue, holding the largest share in Western Europe for this quarter.
“Compatible ink cartridges and tanks, where the kit had been recycled or reconditioned, declined 29% YoY in the same period,” said Zivile Brazdziunaite, an Imaging Market Analyst at Context. “The decline has also knocked the market share significantly as year-on-year unit sales continued to (shrink) by 37%, while average selling prices increased 11%, up to 11 euros, for the period.”
