EU Supports Remanufacturing with New Project
143 million Euros, or 185 million US dollars, will be given to research projects that investigate reuse and remanufacturing in Europe.
According to the digital newsletter Resource, the European Commission, or EC, wants to see remanufacturing used in what they are calling Factories of the Future.
The EC says remanufacturing will increase the level of competitiveness and reduce the environmental footprint of manufacturing industries.
By helping industry to extract and reuse working components of end-of-life products, longer lifespan products will be created, saving time, money, energy, and resources for business.
The Commission expects to fund a number of projects, each to the tune of 6 million Euros, or 8 million US dollars, but more funds could be available if necessary. The Commission wants businesses to partner with others in the European Union, but to also look abroad to the US and Mexico to find remanufacturing solutions.
Submissions for Factories for the Future funding must be lodged before February 4, 2015.
