Further Info on Sharp-HP Copier Deal

On November 22, Recycling Times reported that Sharp Corporation may complete a deal to make copiers under the HP brand. Later, Japan Times revealed Sharp will also consider working with HP on toners and other supplies.

Through its cooperation with HP, Sharp hopes to extend production of copiers to recover its losses in the liquid crystal business, while HP aims to expand its product lineup by the addition of Sharp’s copiers.

Sharp is among the top manufacturers of A3 copiers, ranking fifth worldwide in terms of shipment volume. Japan Times stated the firm switched to HP after it terminated talks with Samsung Electronics on a jointly owned copier company.
