HP Cuts 66 Jobs in Houston
Hewlett-Packard Co. announced it was cutting 66 jobs at its facility on Compaq Center Drive in Houston as part of its “corporate restructuring” efforts, according to a letter the company sent to the Texas Workforce Commission last week.
The first group of employees was cut from the payrolls on Oct. 24 while the remainder were scheduled to receive pink slips last week. Some of the employees may be able to transfer to other positions in the company, HP said.
“In order to win in the rapidly evolving markets where we compete, we have to continue to make HP a more nimble, lower cost, and more customer- and partner-centric company,” HP spokesman Blair Hinderliter said in a statement. “This further alignment, along with our increased focus on innovation, will position HP well for the future.”
In May, HP announced it was eliminating another 11,000 to 16,000 positions, beyond the 34,000 it planned to eliminate during a multiyear restructuring plan it launched two years earlier.
