IDC: Business Laser Printers Boost in Hungary
According to the research group IDC, the shipment volume and value of laser printers for business in Hungary in 4Q2013 showed double-digit growth. Meanwhile, the overall printer market fell 8.3% YOY (year on year) in shipment to less than 68,400 units, worth $21 million.
IDC noted that the increasing demand for laser devices, particularly MFPs, is attributed to the recovery of the overall business climate. Moreover, “Despite businesses’ continued price consciousness and desire for maximum value from their budgets, their preferences are shifting toward midrange printing devices.” said the company.
However, the inkjet market, focusing on home users, declined almost 20% YOY in unit shipment. IDC observed, “The inkjet segment was negatively affected by vendors shifting their focus away from unprofitable entry-level devices to higher value peripherals. Furthermore, home users favored the purchase of more attractive IT devices such as smart phones and media tablets during the final quarter of the year.”
As unveiled by IDC, HP leads the Hungarian printer market, with unit shipment accounting for almost 57% in 4Q2013, followed by Canon and Samsung, with 19.5% and 8.5% share, respectively.
