IDC Says Color Laser Printers Boost in China Market
IDC has reported 823,000 shipments of inkjet and non-copier based laser printers (exclusive digital MFD) in China in April 2014, posting a 7.6% year-on-year growth.
It is stated the laser segment saw a hike of 14.0% year-on-year, with 630,000 shipments, inkjet, on the other hand, declined 9.3% year-on-year with 193,000 shipments.
Shana Wang, IDC Senior Market Analyst, asserted the growth of laser printers shipment is mainly driven by the increasing demand of the industry and enterprise users, particularly the procurement in the financial, industrial and commercial, as well as healthcare sectors. Moreover, the increased shipment of low-speed monochrome laser printers and color laser printers also contributed to the growth.
In April, 379,000 monochrome laser printers at speed of 1-20 ppm were shipped, up 14% year-on-year. The color laser market also boosted by 47.1%, with 34,000 shipments. IDC predicted the China market will see substantial rise in color laser printers, due to current low installation of color laser printers, better control of color printing cost and the falling prices of color laser printers. In addition, the printer market is driven by the dramatic growth of online sales.
With respect to the decline of inkjet printers, the analyst claimed it was mainly caused by the delivery adjusting of the leading manufacturers including HP and Canon. Moreover, the demand from family and SOHO users remained flat.
