IDC Says Worldwide Printer Market Recovered Its Growth in 3Q2013
IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker Report on A2 through A4 printing and copying device shipments in 3Q2013 shows the entire market saw its first hike since 1Q2011. With 28.1 million units shipped, revenues were up 2.6% YOY.
The Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan) led the pack at 5.2% YOY, followed by Western Europe and the US with 3.5% and 0.5% YOY, respectively.
Inkjet printer shipments reached 16.8 million units in 3Q2013 and increased 0.4% YOY. This rise was attributed to a 4.0% YOY lift in inkjet multifunction printers (MFP). The laser market rose 5.9% YOY with 8.3 million units of monochrome laser devices shipped, up 5.5% YOY. Color laser continues to be the market’s bright spot with 7.8% YOY growth and over 1.8 million units shipped.
HP continues to lead the global market, capturing 40.7% market share in 3Q2013, with more than 11.4 million units shipped, up 12.2% YOY. Canon ranks second, with 20.4% market share, maintaining the same growth rate compared to the same period last year. Epson, following Canon, achieved a 14.2% market share, but was down 4.5% YOY in units shipped. Brother ranked in.4th place with a 7.2% market share and 5.7% increase in unit shipments. Samsung, with a market share of 4.6%, rounded out the top 5 vendors, with 1.3 million units shipped, a decrease of 5.1% YOY.
