Indian Printer, Copier, MFP Shipments Decreased in 1Q2013
According to Gartner, Inc. (Stamford, Connecticut), shipments of inkjet and laser printers, copiers and MFPs in India totaled 690,344 units in the first quarter of 2013, an 8.9% decline from the first quarter of 2012.
End user spending totaled USD $237.5 million, remaining almost flat, with only a 1% decrease from 1Q2012. The monochrome and color markets declined 2.9% and 11.2%, respectively.
HP remained the market leader, with a 52.3% market share, followed by Canon, Epson, Samsung and others, with portions of 19.9%, 9.2%, 8.4% and 10.2%, respectively.
The laser A4 MFP segment grew 18% compared to 1Q2012. HP sustained its No.1 position in this segment, with 55% market share, followed by Samsung and Canon, accounting for 20.5% and 12.5% slices, respectively.
The laser A3 MFP segment declined 14.8% compared to 1Q2012. Canon led the market with a 26.3% market share; while Konica Minolta was in second place with a 16% slice.
The overall laser printer market declined 14.1%. HP also ranked No.1 at 55.4% market share, followed by Canon at 25.7%, and Samsung with 10% market share. Their shipments declined 13.7%, 27.6% and 15.2% respectively. Color laser printers in the 11-20, 21-30 and 31-40 ppm segment did well compared to1Q2012.
“Vendors are targeting small and midsize businesses (SMBs) and small office home office (SOHO) markets in India with increased focus on the cost and quality needs of office users,” said Zalak Shah, Research Analyst at Gartner. “Key market players are trying to stimulate demand with new offerings and by working closely with channel partners for market expansion.”
