Indian Printer Market Reports Continuous Growth

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the Indian Hard Copy Peripherals (HCP) market has grown by 11.1% in the third quarter of 2015 (Q3 2015) and reached 984,337 units in terms of shipments.

The inkjet market delivered a strong performance as well, due to the high demand for InkTank printers in the SOHO and small-to-medium business (SMB) segment. The festive season in Q3 2015 also contributed to the strong growth of the inkjet market. Riyaz Ahmed, Market Analyst IPDS of IDC, says “Reducing the cost of printing has increased the adoption and usage of printers. Till now SOHO and SMB segments were extensively adopting/using these InkTank printers, but in future home users are expected to be another major segment for this.”

In the laser segment, the Laser HCP (Printer-based) market grew by 6.8% in unit shipments in Q3 2015, compared to total shipments in Q2 2015. This is mainly driven by the increased demand from the government segment. In this segment, HP continued to lead the market with a share of 50.4%, followed by Canon and Ricoh at the second and third place. The copier-based Laser HCP market registered a growth of 43.6% in Q3 2015, also due to strong government buying. Ricoh took the biggest market share, with a strong sequential growth of 111.7% in Q3 2015.

Looking at OEMs performances in the Indian HCP market, HP remained the market leader with 43.2% shipment share in Q3 2015, followed by Canon and Epson with 18.8% and 18.1% share. Ricoh came in at the fourth place owing the growth to their increased online sales.

IDC also claims that India is the only country in the Asia-Pacific Region that has grown year-on-year (YOY) from Q1 to Q3 2015 in shipments.
