Innovation and Cooperation is the Key to Solve Patent Disputes
A patent is an invisible asset of a company. It is also the weapon OEMs like to use to fight against the aftermarket, strengthening its market share in competition.
The aftermarket raised awareness of patents through lessons gained from the past 337 investigations, lawsuits and takedowns. “If we all make endeavours to innovate, the patent wouldn’t be an issue at all,” said Honghui Zhou (pictured), Product Engineer & Product General Manager of Dinglong.
Zhou made a speech on patent, innovation and cooperation at the RemaxWorld summit 2021 held in September.
According to Zhou, innovation is the core competitiveness of a company as well as an industry. “Producing self-patented products can avoid the risks of patent-infringing. It is the fundamental way to solve any patent issue in the future,” said Zhou to the participants.
Zhou further pointed out that there is no difference between big innovation and small innovation. “Each improvement is innovation indeed,” he said.
“Patent doesn’t have to be a private possession; it can be shared to make some contributions,” Zhou urged. He called on the participants as well as the industry to try cross-licensing within the industry so as to avoid internal disputes. As for the common disputes faced by the industry, Zhou urged the industry to fight together.
Considering the complexity and difficulty of patents, Zhou also suggested creating a platform to share understandings of the core parts of some patents.
