Konica Minolta and Fujifilm Explore Potential Collaboration

Konica Minolta and Fujifilm have announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the feasibility of forming a strategic alliance in various printer segments, including multifunction printers, office printers, and production printers.

The tentative cooperation is in response to the rapidly evolving printer market and industry, which requires proactive measures from businesses. Konica Minolta and Fujifilm has been mutually interested in reaching business alliance and actively seeking for potential opportunities for a long time to establish a stronger supply system and industrial network.

Certain details of the alliance under discussion are unveiled. Procurement collaboration is one the main topics. The two companies are considering coordinating purchase of raw materials and parts by establishing a joint venture, which is estimated to take place in the second quarter of fiscal year 2024. Fujifilm will take up the majority of the ownership, but specific ratio is yet to be negotiated. Alliances in other fields, including toner development and production, will be addressed separately.

Toshimitsu Taiko, President and CEO of Konica Minolta, expressed confident anticipation of this potential cooperation. “Sharing a common understating of the challenges facing the business, the two leading companies will be able to mutually maximize strengths through this alliance.”

Fujifilm also believed this strategic move will benefit both parties profoundly. “The ongoing discussions for this business alliance are of immense importance as we strive to strengthen our competitiveness and expand our global presence to make a significant leap forward,” said Naoki Hama, President and CEO, Fujifilm.
