Konica Minolta Forms Alliance with MGI
According to Printweek, Konica Minolta has established an alliance with MGI Digital Graphic Technology, a French manufacturer of digital printing and finishing equipment. Konica Minolta will take a 10% stake in MGI, valued at €13.7 million (about USD $18.7 million).
Printweek reported the companies stated co-development and co-marketing of existing and future products would be included in their new partnership. The first highlight would be MGI’s Meteor digital press line, an opponent of Konica Minolta’s top-end Bizhub Press C8000e.
Also, the companies will expand their inkjet product segment since they are planning to launch B2 sheetfed presses, which run at similar speeds and offer the same 1,200 dpi resolution. They are also capable of applying UV-cured inkjet inks.
Konica Minolta claims MGI’s specialty in digital printing and its innovation capability are the driving factors for the partnership. On the other hand, MGI is looking forward to benefits from the additional exposure to be gained.
Edmond Abergel, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of MGI, asserted, “We are very happy and proud that Konica Minolta recognizes our accomplishments and our unique capacity to innovate. This strategic alliance will be the basis for the development of tomorrow’s innovative digital solutions.”
