Kyocera recalls multifunctional printers due to fire hazard
Kyocera Document Solutions Australia is recalling a number of its A3 multifunctional printers due to a possible fire hazard relating to an optional accessory.
The company said that when the optional “300 sheet feeding unit / PF – 410” accessory is installed to the printer and then detached and reinstalled, there is a possibility of breakage or deformation between the main unit and paper feeding unit electrical connector.
The breakage or deformation may cause smoke or fire from failure of the control board.
The recall covers models KM 1620/1635/1650/2050/2550, with a serial number range between AHZ3 000001 to AHZ3 322326. The products were sold from August 2004 up until it was discontinued in December 2010.
“Affected owners will be contacted directly by either Kyocera Document Solutions Australia or the dealer from where the product was originally purchased,” the recall advertisement read.
“An inspection and repair of the device will be completed free of charge. Consumers should not attempt to move the main unit from the paper feeding unit until repairs have been completed.”
