Kyocera Reports Higher Color Printer Sales
Kyocera released a first quarter financial report for its fiscal year 2013 (ending on June 30). Results show the company’s net income more than tripled, driven by higher sales of color printers, solar products and the yen depreciation.
According to Kyocera, its net sales increased by 11% to 331.7 billion yen (US$ 3.4 billion) in the first quarter compared to 297.7 billion yen in the same period last year. Net income rose to 22.7 billion yen (US$ 230 million), up 244.8% year-on-year, from 6.57 billion yen in the same period a year ago. Operations profit also rose to 25.4 billion yen (US $258 million), while the first quarter of last year brought a loss of 2 billion yen (US $20.2 million) in operations.
Kyocera also claimed its sales in Europe increased, compared with the previous first quarter. Growth is primarily due to increased sales in the Information Equipment Group, propelled by growth in the sales volume of printers and multifunctional products, as well as the yen’s depreciation.
