Man Steals Ink to Change River Color

Man Steals Ink to Change River Color, ink cartridgeA 43-year-old man in the northeast of England allegedly stole printer ink because he wated to “change the color of the River Skerne”.

Simon Hall told police he “discovered” ink cartridges to be “the act of God”. He kept possession of the stolen items because he prayed and believed God answered his prayer.

The police searched the man’s home and found a cannabis farm along with stolen goods, including a child’s pushchair and a CCTV system.

He confessed he was in desperate financial situation but strongly denied the printer cartridges were “stolen” rather they were “provided” for another valid reason.

He was given a six-month jail sentence, suspended for one year, and required to do unpaid community work for 150 hours. Further, he was required to take part in 10 rehabilitation activity days, along with paying £80 to those he stole from.

Why do people steal ink?

There are several reasons why people may want to steal printer inks and not want to change the color of the local river.

  1. High Cost: Printer ink cartridges can be expensive, often costing as much as the printer itself or sometimes even more. Some individuals may steal ink cartridges because they cannot afford to purchase them at retail prices.
  2. Resale Value: Printer ink cartridges, especially those from popular brands, can have a high resale value on the black market or online platforms. Thieves may steal ink cartridges to sell them for a profit.
  3. Personal Use: Some individuals may steal printer ink for their personal use without the intention of selling it. They may see it as a convenient way to obtain a necessary item without paying for it. This could be due to financial difficulties or simply a lack of regard for the consequences of their actions.
