Mito Gets its Head Around its Patent Solution for Canon

Mito Color Imaging (known as Mito) has successfully filed and been granted a patent for its workaround solution in certain of its new-build compatible Canon toner cartridges.

The workaround solution is related to Canon’s European Patent EP1 977 289 (also known as EP 289).

The EP 289 patent is aimed at protecting the mechanism that separates the developer roller from the OPC drum “under the action of the second force receiving portion.” In Mito’s new design, the developer roller and OPC drum are not separated from each other.

To make sure it avoids the core patent protected by the EP 289 description, Mito researched and developed its own patented solution that would not infringe Canon’s patent. The company has significantly restructured the core part of the OEM design to ensure the perfect compatibility between the toner cartridge and the printer.

Mito claims its patented solution provides a toner cartridge that has outstanding print quality and stability. Its patented solution can be used in a number of Canon and HP toner cartridges that have the EP 289 patent design as shown below:
