Ninestar Rolls Out Patented Solution for Samsung 1660 Series Cartridges
Ninestar, a sales organization of the Seine Group, has unveiled a patented solution for Samsung 1660 Series alternative cartridges.
Since 2012, Samsung has sought to protect its cartridge patent rights by sending out warning letters and taking distributors to court, in Europe. The OEM was granted a toner cartridge patent (EP2357537B1) for Samsung MLT-D1042s last October. Ninestar said they responded quickly and launched a design-around solution to avoid patent violation. Released last November, the Ninestar solution is now patented in the European Union market.
According to the EP2357537B1 patent (EP537’), the key character of the cartridge includes a recessed portion depressed downwardly towards the photoconductor in a center portion of the upper wall, and a gap between the side walls of the recessed portion gradually increases in a direction from the cleaning unit toward the container.
To put it simply, the patent is about a recess on the waste toner container. Samsung’s design is V-shaped while Ninestar applies a rectangular design (see the following two figures).
Ninestar claims in its press release, “We have full confidence in this patented product as we have hundreds of independent patents on Samsung aftermarket cartridges. We always respect the intellectual property rights of Samsung.”
