Photizo: Global Media Shipments Fall
Photizo Group reports worldwide shipments of laser media and desktop cut-sheet ink jet media declined 2.3% year-over-year from 2012 to 2013. An increase in media revenue, however, means there will be a boost in media price per page through the forecast period.
Laser media shipments will see a 2.0% decline, claims Photizo, falling from 2.27 trillion letter-sized pages in 2012 to 2.22 trillion letter-sized pages in 2013. Desktop cut-sheet ink jet media shipments will also decline from 251.4 billion letter-equivalent pages in 2012 to 239.3 billion letter-equivalent pages in 2013, a drop of 4.8%.
Worldwide laser media and desktop cut-sheet ink jet media revenue will register a 0.1% increase to $30.68 billion in 2013. Nevertheless, Photizo forecasts, the worldwide laser media and desktop cut-sheet ink jet media revenue will shrink from 2013 through their forecast cycle (2013-2017).
Photizo says one of its recent surveys showed a large percentage of users do not need to print from their smartphones and tablets mainly due to: 1) a lack of awareness they can print, and 2) mobile printing is too complicated. But OEMs are now investing much more in simplifying the mobile print process.
