Ricoh Explores Potential Cooperation with OKI for ETRIA Venture
Ricoh today issued an official statement to respond to Nikkei’s report, clarifying that the reported inclusion of OKI Electric Industry in ETRIA Co., Ltd. is yet to be finalized. While Ricoh confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding OKI’s potential partnership with ETRIA, the company emphasized that no official announcement has been made regarding this matter. Ricoh also stated that any developments related to the partnership would be disclosed promptly.
Nikkei reported that OKI Electric Industry is set to join ETRIA Co., Ltd., a joint venture formed between Ricoh and Toshiba Tec. The report suggests that OKI’s printer production and development division would be integrated into ETRIA, with the aim of leveraging shared production bases and technology to minimize geopolitical risks and enhance management efficiency. This move is expected to further streamline operations and expand the capabilities of ETRIA in the office machine business.
While no formal partnership has been confirmed, Ricoh and OKI have had a history of collaboration in the printing sector, particularly through OKI Data’s role in offering printing solutions. This prior cooperation, combined with the growing demand for high-performance printers in the office and business sectors, sets a favorable precedent for a potential partnership within ETRIA. Given the strategic advantages of such a partnership, the integration of OKI’s printing technology into ETRIA could further strengthen the joint venture’s market position and ability to provide innovative solutions.
Ricoh reiterated that any official developments related to OKI’s potential involvement in ETRIA will be disclosed in a timely manner. The company emphasized its commitment to transparency and will provide updates as necessary once discussions reach a conclusion.
