Ricoh Secures Asia-Pacific Climate Leader for Third Year
Ricoh has proudly announced its inclusion in the FT-Statista Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders list for the third consecutive year. Out of the 350 companies acknowledged, Ricoh achieved an impressive 27th overall ranking and secured the 8th position out of 70 in the Technology & Electronics sector.
Compiled by the Financial Times in collaboration with research firm Statista, The list honors companies in the Asia-Pacific region that have demonstrated significant reductions in their core emission intensity from 2017 to 2022. The assessment was based on data provided by participating firms, evaluating the changes in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity relative to their revenue. Additional criteria included the transparency of indirect Scope 3 emissions and whether companies work with sustainability evaluators such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
In line with its green initiatives, the electricity used in the global production of Ricoh’s flagship A3 multifunction printers (MFPs) is sourced entirely from renewable energy. The company continuously enhances its processes and integrates energy-efficient equipment, achieving Net Zero Energy Building certification at various sites in Japan.
Ricoh became the first Japanese company to join RE100 in April 2017. This global initiative brings together influential businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity. Ricoh set ambitious goals to cut GHG emissions by 63% (Scope 1 and 2) and 40% (Scope 3) by 2030, compared to fiscal 2015 levels. These targets, endorsed by the SBTi, align with the Paris Agreement’s objective of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. In March 2024, Ricoh advanced its Scope 1 and 2 targets from 2050 to 2040, aiming for complete reliance on renewable electricity, and set a new target of a 65% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2040.
Ricoh’s dedication to sustainability was recently recognized with a double A score for climate action and water security in the latest CDP A list 2023. This accolade highlights Ricoh’s leadership in environmental stewardship and its commitment to sustainable practices.
