UTec Responds to Canon’s Patent Lawsuit
Canon USA recently filed lawsuits in New York’s Southern District Court against 18 printer cartridge remanufacturers and other aftermarket suppliers. Several Print-Rite companies, including Print-Rite Holdings Ltd., Print-Rite N.A., Inc., Print-Rite Unicorn Image Products Co. Ltd. and Union Technology Int’l (M.C.O.) Co. Ltd. (UTec) are involved in this case.
As was revealed by UTec, Canon sued it and its related companies for selling certain aftermarket cartridges which, Canon alleges, infringe its patents. Also, the OEM has sued some customers of those companies or sent letters charging them with infringement of Canon’s dongle gear coupling patents.
UTec said it and its related companies respect the valid intellectual property rights of others and “will respond to Canon’s allegations accordingly”. In addition, the companies promise they will “stand behind all of the products they sell” and “any resolution of the dispute with Canon will address Canon’s allegations against the companies’ customers”.
