VIP Event Sparks Warm Reunion in Brazil

For the first time in eight years, distributors of printers and printing supplies met in Sao Paulo, Brazil, arguably the largest market in Latin America.

Great emotion was experienced as competitors and suppliers met with buyers at the RT VIP Expo at the Novotel Hotel. The Brazilian market used to host very large expos in the past but no event had brought the industry together since 2015.

Ninety-two “big buyers,” mostly CEOs of companies that have a track record of importing products, attended the one-day expo followed by a gala dinner. Some visitors were new to the event, and only heard about it following a personal phone call from Gustavo Molinatti (pictured far left), RT’s partner for events and publishing in Latin America.

“These new attendees are distributors of OEM products and wanted to look for quality supplies to add to their business models, “Molinatti said. “Others were from MPS businesses looking for alternative suppliers.’

David Gibbons from RT, the joint organiser of the event with Molinatti, noted some attendees had also been at the first VIP event in Buenos Aires three days earlier. “I was pleased to greet them again,” said Gibbons. “They told me the event had been so helpful for them in Argentina that they wanted more, given some exhibitors in Brazil were not at the Argentine event.”

The first of the unique one-day events was held in Buenos Aires on June 13. The third and fourth VIP events will be held in Bogota (Colombia) on June 20 and Mexico City (Mexico) on June 23 respectively.

22 exhibitors, mainly from China, exhibited a range of products at the Sao Paulo event, including components such as chips as well as finished products. Other products for copiers and handheld printers were also on offer.

Unsolicited messages, in Portuguese,  flowed back after the event to the organisers too. “I found new suppliers for products I can sell to my customers,” was one comment. Another said, “Congratulations on the great event. Thank you for the opportunity this has given to me.”

Similar one-day VIP expos were run by RT and Molinatti in Mexico City and Bogota in 2019. but the successful event model had to be suspended during COVID.

348 buyers across Latin America have been selected and invited to attend one of the four events based on customs data revealing the value of shipments being imported by each company in each country.

During the gala dinner, that followed the trade show, awards were presented to three local businesses and individuals. Katun Brasil received the Best Supplier Award for its service to customers for more than 25 years.

Cassio Rodriguez received the RT Diamond Pioneering Award for his ability to teach clearly and honestly and by setting the benchmark in training, and technical matters in Brazil and Latin America. He has written hundreds of articles for magazines, which were translated into several languages ​​and read throughout the Latin region and globally.

The Industry Leader Award was presented to Marcos Varela, the managing partner of Diamond Brasil, a company he founded in 2002.  Varela maintains one of the most referenced companies in the printing supplies market, known for its honesty, ethics and organization.

One attendee, Roberto Coelho (pictured from Dutec), won free hotel accommodation at the RemaxWorld Expo in the lucky draw prize.

RemaxWorld is the world’s largest printer and imaging supplies event and will be held during October 12-14 in Zhuhai, China.
