Worldwide Production Printers Shipments Sees Growth in 2Q2013
According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Production Printer Tracker, the worldwide shipments of production printers (printers and MFPs) in 2Q2013 increased 15% YoY to 13,000 units. But the shipment value sees a decrease of 4% YoY to more than $500 million.
Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta and Ricoh dominate the market. In terms of shipment volume, Xerox leads the market and accounts for 25% shares, followed by Canon, Konica Minolta and Ricoh, with shares of 24.4%, 21.4% and 16.6% respectively. Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta and Ricoh are also top 4 vendors in terms of shipment value, with market shares of 30.8%, 20.2%, 16.7% and 12.5% respectively.
The shipments of the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region reached 1,300 units, with 16.6% YoY growth. The Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) region grew 9.0% YoY with shipments totaling 1,500 units. Devices in the Mid-Production and Production categories were key contributors to the market in this region, with 47.2% and 5.3% YoY increases, respectively.
“2013 will be a growth year for the digital production market. While the offset-to-digital migration is a part of the story, it can’t be ignored that vendors have been actively making technology enhancements from job creation to finishing, ensuring that digital print is value-added print,” said Amy Machado, Senior Research Analyst, Hardcopy Peripheral Solutions at IDC.
