Zhono Provides Autocalibration Guide for HP W9050A Chips

Background

One of Zhono’s customers reported that when installing an HP W9050A chip in the copier, the message [Calibrating…] appears. However, since this message doesn’t appear with every chip installation, the customer believed there was a chip issue when there was not a chip issue.

When a new HP W9050A chip is installed, the copier will automatically initiate calibration. This is a feature of the corresponding model copiers and not related to chips.

Autocalibration

Autocalibration in printers and copiers, also known as automatic color calibration or print optimization, is a technology aimed at improving print quality and consistency. This feature works by automatically adjusting printer settings to ensure that the printed output matches the original document or image as closely as possible in terms of color, contrast, and sharpness. The autocalibration function is crucial for enhancing printer performance and user satisfaction.

Reason

If the copier doesn’t display the prompt [Calibrating…] after installing the chip, some reasons could be:

  1. The chip is not a new one.
  2. The chip is not equipped with the autocalibration feature.

Not all HP W9050A chips in the market have the autocalibration function. Zhono’s engineers tested OEM chips, Zhono chips, and chips from other manufacturers. It turns out that OEM and Zhono chips were consistent, both featuring the autocalibration function, and so the copier displayed the prompt [Calibrating…]. (See Figure 1.)
