Setting Standards for Cartridges -Berto Measures Up
Like most mature industries, the print industry observes the standards established by third-party authorities in the areas of quality control, environment and management. Examples include ISO9001, Nordic Swan, ISO14001 and Energy Star.
There are also a number of third party testing laboratories established to examine the technologies, functions, and quality of hardware devices as well as the consumables used in them. KeyPoint Intelligence-Buyers Lab (BLI) is one of the best-known labs and is highly regarded by OEMs and the aftermarket alike.
The US-based International Imaging Technology Council (Int’l ITC) provides Standardized Test Methods Committee (STMC) certification/accreditation to cartridge remanufacturers all over the globe.
The printer cartridge aftermarket looks to the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as a standard as well. When it comes to comparing the products side-by-side factors will include the density of the prints, the yield (number of pages from a cartridge), and failure rates. Drop tests, humidity tests are also included.
