HP to Introduce Initiative for Remanufactured Consumables

HP has unveiled the SecuReuse initiative, which aimed to promote sustainability and advocate the use of remanufactured printer consumables.

Eduardo Macias, Vice President of Consumer Print Supplies at HP, revealed detailed information about the program during an exclusive interview with The Recycler. HP has been recommending the use of its original cartridges, considering printing quality, reliability, and security. Therefore, remanufactured consumables from third parties may be incompatible if applied to HP’s device. However, after the launch of the SecuReuse program, HP will be more supportive of reused cartridges.

The solution is scheduled to commence approximately at the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026 and will mainly benefit remanufacturers within the EMEA region. Several aftermarket partners, including KMP, Altkin, and Peach, are invited to collaborate with HP to build this platform that will enable remanufacturers to engage with HP’s technologies without infringing intellectual properties.

Alfred Wirch, CEO of Peach, shared his anticipation about future cooperation with HP. “By embracing HP’s new solution, we can deliver an environmentally conscious printing option, enabling our customers to conserve resources – like e-waste – while achieving high-quality prints… The SecuReuse solution represents a significant  milestone for printer manufacturers, end users, and reuse manufacturers alike as we collectively work to contribute to a circular economy.”

The EU legislation has been targeted towards the office imaging sector in recent months, demonstrating stricter regulations on sustainability. HP’s innovative initiative will be a timely response to this change of focus and may shape the future landscape of the industry.
